Something always confusing me

In movies I’ve seen people donate blood without registration and even getting paid in money for it.

What places do that? Is that really a thing in some countries? Where?

Here in Denmark you can only donate through proper registrations and you cannot be paid for it. To avoid people willfully lying about their identities and how often they donate, to secure healthy blood and keep people from endangering their own health by donating too much/often.

What places differ from this?

America.
You get paid $20-$50 for donating depending on how much you donate. It’s a good way to get quick buck if you’re short. Also, free donuts.

All blood that is donated or sold is then checked for blood borne pathogens
  3. askeverfreerat answered: you get paid here for it because northamericans need to be rewarded for good deeds instead of just doing good deeds. :/
