People always like to champion “oh that ask blog doesn’t owe you anything.” Well we kind of DO. We owe you our best effort to provide entertainment. That is why you follow us. That is the unwritten contract we agreed to when choosing to partake in a semi-interactive entertainment medium.

We don’t owe cameo’s. We don’t owe you answering you asks, we don’t owe you free art or fan fics or anything like that… but we DO owe you respect, and we DO owe you our gratitude, and we owe you entertainment.

I can stop updating my art blogs ANY TIME I want. And you can’t do a thing about it. I don’t owe you entertainment. I give it to you because that’s what I want to do with my life. I WANT to entertain. But I don’t OWE you it. I can pack my business up and go entertain somebody else that isn’t you.

I don’t owe others respect either. I give them respect since I am a decent person. But if you treat me like trash, I won’t give you respect. And I don’t owe you my gratitude if all you do is bother me for stuff.

Everything on my blogs is “Given” out of KINDNESS and my DESIRE to Entertain.

Maybe its a Runescape thing? I mean we’re a a community that coined the phrase “WE PAY, WE SAY!” and hold in-game riots. I suppose it doesn’t get much more self entitled then that.

Our medium is one that rewards grinding and hard work. The prospect of “You have to grind for anything good” is something that has been hard wired into out physice. So when I’m not putting out my best effort to entertain and to appreciate each and every follower I feel like I’m not earning it.

You are mistaking hard work for “Owing” people. The concept of work hard, put in time, get rewards is NOT in anyway a “runescape thing.” It’s one of the oldest concepts in society.

You do not owe your audience anything. But you “want” to entertain them and grow that audience. There is a difference between “owing somebody something,” and “wanting to produce something to entertain.”
