Curiosity: If you are outside the U.S., did military recruiters from your country come to your high school (sometimes repeatedly and in multiple classes using multiple angles) to try to convince you to join the army, navy, etc.?

Being from the Netherlands, I can’t say I’ve ever seen such a person in my life.

May have had to do with the kind of school I’m on, but I’ve literally never heard of this happening outside the United States.

Canadian here, and maybe it was just my school but I can hardly recall anything like that. bit shocked at how blazen US military recruiters are.

They also make you take a test regardless and im pretty sure ive seen some that get mad if you say no

Finnish person here. We even have a conscription for all AMAB people at 18, but I never saw a single recruiter. American obsession with the military is really goddamn creepy.

I still remember a recruiter coming to my house and he was super nice talking about how I could have this and that for my future, no matter how much I kept telling him I wanted a career in art he was giving promises like “we’ll cover schooling”

But I didn’t want to be a part of it, though he pressured me so much with a promise of something better than the poverty I was living with. He set an appointment with me, and when I had time alone to really think, I told my mom I didn’t want to do it.

When he came back, she told him we didn’t want a part of it and I remember him giving me this look and trying to guilt me, “I could have been having dinner with my daughter right now whom I don’t see very often, but I’m here instead. And you wasted that time.”

The fact that he stooped to such a low tactic when he knew I only lived with my single mother was what put the nail in the coffin and made me decide to NEVER involve myself in the military.

I will not voluntarily be abused and taken advantage of.

That’s pretty much how it is here in the US, our military takes advantage of desperate people because they know how desperate many Americans are right now.
