Whole first draft of the “Let It Go” revamp storyboards!!

Well, I went and got the whole thing out over the course of about a week I guess. Was 5 days since I posted the first portion of it and I guess I went and did all the rest since it got around.

I admit, I got super lazy with a lot of it and some of it isn’t as clear and I’m sorry about that but… I’m tired haha… Also I have a ton of other projects to do. I’m surprised I did it all tbh. It’s one of the longest storyboard sequences I’ve done so far!

Though it was for fun, it was at least also a good practice for me. I knew I needed something more visual than what the original was and though I had the vision it’s always hard to make out what you actually have in mind and do it justice. It’s a start though! Thank you all for the nice comments you’ve had before! I hope you enjoy the rest~

(Maybe one day I’d try cleaning it up more idk.)

I fucking love this. I love it because:

ELSA FINALLY GETS TO CONFRONT HER PARENTS.

We don’t get to see that in the film. After they die, they basically disappear, and Elsa’s fear of herself becomes the bogeyman. Where that fear comes from, the reason it exists, is swept under the rug.

Elsa’s terror of her powers doesn’t come from the accident with Anna — we don’t see her become gunshy, the way someone in a car crash can sometimes be afraid of driving afterwards. Her fear comes directly and explicitly from her parents, who lock her up in a room and actively teach her that she’s a monster. We see them reinforce that message over and over — and then they die, and death absolves them of their crimes.

There’s something bitterly ironic about the fact that Frozen came out after Tangled, considering the king & queen behave exactly like Mother Gothel did, but they aren’t considered villains.

PSA: Isolation is a form of torture, and unless you’re hiding your kid from Nazis, locking your child in isolation is child abuse.

There is power in acknowledging, even if it’s just to yourself, that someone has done you wrong. In college, I started going to therapy because I felt like I had anger management problems, and my therapist helped me recognize that I actually was being bullied by someone I considered a close friend. That was the first step on a long road towards healing.

Elsa is never given the opportunity to acknowledge the fact that her parents wounded her deeply (nor is Anna, who suffers from the collateral damage). The most frustrating part is, it wouldn’t have been hard. In bonkalore’s video, it only takes maybe 5 seconds to show Elsa confronting her parents, reminding herself & the audience You did this to me, and then “letting go” of what she was taught. That visual is important, because it’s easy to forget that “conceal, don’t feel” came from her father, since he says it once and she says it repeatedly.

Five seconds. That’s all it would have taken.

Ahhhh really nice commentary, thank you!!
I’m really glad others haven’t overlooked the part with the parents cuz that was kinda a big part of the problems with Elsa and Disney just treated like they were the best parents and will greatly missed and like?? Sure they will be missed, but damn, they fucked up.

#this has better animation and more emotion than the entire movie lol
