My favorite one is, “come on Star Wars be original,” as if putting a man in the lead would be cutting edge stuff. Anyway…

Have actually seen a few people complaining about it on other forums as well. Meh, whatever. Not gonna judge her without seeing the film first myself.

….y'know. The only time I’ll ever care if a character is female. Is if they were male in the original media.
Same argument applies to changing a characters race or colour.

Otherwise. Oh, look, a PERSON as a lead. I wonder what story this will be.

Why the fuck does it matter to you if they have tits or not otherwise.

Would it have been any different *at all* if it were a dude? How did the fact the lead was a woman affect the story of force awakens exactly? … I didn’t spot her making any reference to her own gender in it at all…I didn’t spot her disparaging the opposite gender at all. I just saw a person playing a role.

But maybe that’s just the not giving a shit bisexual in me.

I largely do not care about male/female leads at all. I might not even care about a male to female character change depending on the details. I did hate SheThor though, but that came down to HeThor still being there and the poor writing in her original eight comic arc that led to me not picking it back up after the stupid Battleworld stuff. She’s much better in ANADA though as a larger cast member where the story isnt focused on her. Can’t remember any other examples of changing the lead’s sex off hand…

Back to Star Wars though, I complain about Rei being a Mary Sue (just earlier today even), but it has nothing to do with her being a chick. I’d complain about a dude being that (IMHO) overly skilled right away as well, and frequently have on multiple occasions. For example Kirito from Sword Art, or the lead dude in I-forget-the-exact-name-magic-academy.

Rei at least has a good reason to be the way she was. She spent her whole life on jakkuun where people and droids were always passing throguh which would explain how she learned to speak droid and alien. She lived in an old ship and scavenged items for food and that would explain how she knows parts. When she fought with a lightsaber she was mostly using it to buy time to run away and every force trick she did was after she had already seen the trick in action. She used the mind trick on JB-007 after kylo tried to mind trick her. She used force grab after kylo used force grab. Even in her force and lightsaber she was still sloppy though. You wanna talk about mary sue, look at luke who had never even been to mos eisly before the events of new hope
