I just had a minor epiphany.

Is Lion a pink Pearl? They do share some similarities…

Lion could be a Pink Pearl that tried to help in the rebellion by shape shifting to a lion (possibly because she felt wrong fusing but wanted to become stronger), but waited too long and got stuck in that form?
Amethyst does warn Steven not to shape shift for too long.. SU wouldn’t have brought it up if it wasn’t a major element.
The gem could also be hidden under Lion’s mane somewhere.

or lion could be a corrupted pearl who still has an innate instinct to serve rose quarts, or rather steven quartz universe.

Remember when corrupted gems were a big deal?
