ss.sasusaku on instagram reposts tons of fan art and edits without crediting/sourcing or permission and i just saw one of my artworks, as well as a lot of art from @finval , @dymx as well as @akemiin@bebebebeth@thelittlechook and some others that i recognize the style of but cannot remember the usernames, so please check to see if there’s your work on there!
i’m filling out a form against copyright infringement here (you can do this without an instagram account and also on behalf for other people [meaning if you’re not the right holder you can do it as well]. here is a little guide if you don’t know what to do) and i ask you to please do the same because i am tired of it. i know that there’s probably hundreds of other accounts out there that do the same, but it’s my art and i for one do not want it posted there.
all you need for the form is a link of the repost, as well as a link to your original post. i just sent off mine and i hope something will be done about this.
Hi, this is ss.sasusaku of Instagram. I don’t appreciate being called out like this and I find it to be rude and mean of fanartists. Yes I repost art. Yes I suppose I don’t credit as much as I should, but I don’t take credit, I don’t alter, and when I can I try to. It is unfair and hurtful of fanartists not to allow other people to share their work. I can’t draw, and I’ve always loved many many of this fandom’s artists. It really hurts to see them turn against me in this way and it hurts to know that many other people who can’t draw and would like a part in this community can’t have one because fanartists won’t allow it.
Now, I can see where I have been wrong in not properly crediting artists. I can and will try to do that to the best of my ability from here-on out. But I beg of you, please do not get my account deleted. I see how I was being unfair, and I’m willing to change. Please allow that.
[Finval’s response is brilliant, but I cut this for length. My apologies.]
I do not think there’s anything wrong with what I did. I acknowledge that I should’ve credited more properly, but beyond that I did nothing wrong. Am I supposed to put my account on hiatus and wait for people I’ve never met to respond when that could take weeks? That’s ludicrous. I’m not blaming anybody, but I am asking the fanartists to try and see it from the other’s perspective.
You say that you’ve had mental health issues from drawing? I have had and still have mental health issue as well, debilitating anxiety and it’s finally being under control. Being blasted like this does nothing except hurt somebody in your “audience” and cause drama that’s unnecessary.
I am sorry I got so many people upset. I am sorry that the artists who are upset choose to attack to me rather than talk to me. I am not a person who gives a damn about follower number, amount of likes, any of that. All I ever wanted to do was share my love for the Naruto series and I will not apologize for that.
[Cut for post length. My apologies.]
Okay, feelings put aside. Do any of you have a copy right license? Do you have any authorization or evidence that I claimed your artwork? I have a friend who’s researched this extensively, and the fact of the matter is while you may not like that your art gets reposted, you have absolutely no LEGAL RIGHT to report my account, or any other account.
Your words and your actions are quite opposite.
I don’t appreciate being called out like this and I find it to be rude and mean of fanartists.
You think artists appreciate finding their work treated like nothing more than a collectible? You find it to be rude and mean, but you are blind to what your own selfish actions are doing to them.
It is unfair and hurtful of fanartists not to allow other people to share their work. I can’t draw…It really hurts to see them turn against me…
Because you went behind their back, and did something disrespectful with their work, without asking them.
it hurts to know that many other people who can’t draw and would like a part in this community can’t have one because fanartists won’t allow it.
How did you even jump to that conclusion that in order to be part of a community, you have to draw? Then what are fanfiction writers? Graphic/edit makers? Theory makers? Translators? Scanners? Roleplayers? You are limiting yourself by thinking that you have to draw to be apart of something. This is not the artists’ fault. You can’t draw? Well no one was ever born knowing how to draw either.
Now, I can see where I have been wrong
[finval’s reply]
I do not think there’s anything wrong with what I did
I’m just going to let the contradiction point at itself.
Am I supposed to put my account on hiatus and wait for people I’ve never met to respond when that could take weeks? That’s ludicrous. –>>> I am not a person who gives a damn about follower number, amount of likes, any of that.
If you don’t give a damn about popularity, but you don’t respect the creators of the works you so covet, then the only explanation is that you don’t give a damn about artists, despite how much you insist that you “always loved many many of this fandom’s artists”.
Do any of you have a copy right license? Do you have any authorization or evidence that I claimed your artwork? I have a friend who’s researched this extensively, and the fact of the matter is while you may not like that your art gets reposted, you have absolutely no LEGAL RIGHT to report my account, or any other account.
^^^ Now that is pure gold.
A copyright exists the very minute an idea, concept, or thought if created into a tangible medium. Meaning that artwork, songs, plays, etc are automatically protected by copyright once they exist. A copyright license is not needed, unless the copyright holder wishes to register with the US Copyright Offfice (or equivalent in their country), so that their copyright is announced more publicly to people, or if they wish to take copyright infringements to court (source). Either way, a copyright license is not needed to submit DMCA reports. The creator merely needs to write to the website that hosts the infringing content to have their work removed (or appoint a representative to do so), and the site will obey under the law.
The artists are the ones who made the work. They don’t need ‘authorization’ from anyone to report something that they made. Evidence that you claim their work is obvious enough. You took their work without their written permission. I would very much like to see the ‘sources’ from your friend whom you claim has done extensive research on this matter, because the fact of this matter is, you would be able to prove everything you say and back it up with official sources, like how I did with copyright licensing.
Artists and other creators have every legal right to report your account. You took their work, without asking them. You’ve been doing this for a long time, and it is only until now, that you’ve been caught, that you begin to realize that you have done something wrong. But instead of admitting it and deleting everything that you took, you get defensive over it.
Artists will continue to report your account, and any other account they find that does the same thing. They may even start giving permission for others to do so for them, to help them with limiting unauthorized distribution of their work. You’re only digging your own grave by coming up with excuses.
I am Silver Tongue, I am an artist. I have many characters and you can check out my art in the art tag. I occasionally practice witchcraft though I don't do anything too complicated. I am girl 2 and don't know what else to put here.
