So a couple of Crewniverse members say they’re against Tumblr mob mentality and immediately you’ve got young people on Tumblr dragging them for it.

Mob mentality is not calling out your abuser or abusive behavior, and warning people. It’s not telling someone you think their post or art is problematic. It’s not holding someone accountable for their actions they have yet to address or rectify. It’s not ignoring a conversation that needs to be had.

Mob mentality is when you flood a person’s inbox with hate mail, stalk them across accounts and social media, and screen cap their blunders so you and thousands of others can dog pile on them for their mistake. It’s when a mob fuels each other with accolades and support for publicly humiliating someone and harassing them. I’ve gone to blogs that have been dragged on popular posts from months and months ago, for people who have already apologized or explained themselves, and they are STILL. GETTING. HATEMAIL.

I have seen people tell other people to kill themselves for saying something problematic years and years ago. And “people change, I am sorry, I am still growing, I fucked up” is RARELY ENOUGH for people. Entire hate blogs and twitters are made aimed at that person. Every social media account suddenly becomes a gold mine of transgressions that champions for the cause can dig up and use as ammo against that person. They are suddenly under a spotlight that never turns off.

I don’t care who you are, that’s terrifying. That breaks a person down. And I have yet to see a post or piece of fan art that warrants that kind of harassment, degradation, and humiliation.

And it happens in every fandom on this site. I’ve seen it happening in every single fandom I’m active in or have been active in. Shipping wars, fan art feuds, screaming matches about headcanons, etc. I’ve seen people delete their blogs due to violent and mean hate mail because a tumblr MOB decided their ship was problematic. That’s insane.

And that’s what the Crewniverse is denouncing. THAT is mob mentality. And it’s not okay.

And frankly I’m ashamed to be apart of a fandom where the artists themselves have to even say this shit.
