Well uh…

1.) one or both of people you see as a “straight couple” could be pan/bi/poly/ace

2.) one or both of them could be trans or non binary

3.) you could be misgendering someone

4.) They could be there to give moral support to a queer friend or family member who didn’t want to go alone.

Number four is important

5. They could be there because they support the cause stop fucking gatekeeping

6. They could be there in memory of a loved one, don’t forget Pride used to be a memorial as well as a celebration. I know a good number of straight people who go to Pride to celebrate the lives of friends and family who have died because they want to remember them as they lived, happy and joyful and surrounded by a community that loved them.

ALL OF THE FUCKING ABOVE.

7. They could be there because they like parades. First Amendment grants freedom of assembly regardless of sexuality.

Hahhaha, quartz. I don’t think they’re questioning the legality, but the morality xD

Laws are still largely born of what people think, or used to think, is moral.

Plus it is one more reason on top of several good ones to counter the original bullshit statement that was made. An extra nail for the coffin, if you will.

Well then, according to your logic someone could go to a gay pride parade and start shouting homophobic shit and it would be morally okay because it’s not illegal.

I’m having trouble telling if you’re serious or not.

You’re taking my argument: That the First Amendment was created because it was believed to be morally just for people to be able to express themselves (regardless of what they were expressing)- and twisting it to say the First Amendment justifies the existence of homophobia and that I am making a pro-homophobic argument.

Do you really think that’s a reasonable leap in logic? Do you even know what the First Amendment says and does and means? Seriously. Go back, re-read what I said, then re-read what you said. Your response was not reasonable by any measure.

From the way you phrased it it sounded like you were saying anything is moral as long as it’s not illegal
