“matpat gave the pope undertale” sounds way different than “matpat met the pope while representing the YouTube gaming community and it’s customary to give the pope a gift that’s reflective of the culture your represent and he chose undertale, a game about choices, consequences and reflect and peace/love”

Yeah, “matpat met the pope while representing the YouTube gaming community” is actually even more ridiculous so I’m not sure context makes this one better

why else would he have been invited tho? thats the one thing im confused about with this. like, hes the game theory guy, does game lab, other video game stuff, and is known for no other reason than video games.

i mean, he was invited specifically, right? he didnt just go? as silly of a reason as it is to invite someone to talk to the pope, what other reason could it be?? what else does he do???

The topic discussed was how the internet brings people together. He was chosen to be there representing YouTube gaming because YouTube is one of the top social media sites and it’s gaming aspect is the largest community. And at such an event its customary to give the pope a gift reflecting who you represent.

well yes i understand that, and thats my point! i dont understand that if thats why he was invited why are people getting on his case about bringing a game and talking about games? if thats why he was there???

OH, because most of them don’t have context and are making judgement based off of his thumbnail and hearsay which is kind of proving his point in the video that people will assume there’s more bad thanks good if they only hear the bad and don’t bother to actually look things up on their own. That’s why he gave three pope undertale because people assume gamers are violent manbabies who live in their mom’s basement and only care about killing in games and undertale is very much against killing. It’s about breaking stereotypes by making hte monsters individuals and their own character. They aren’t just some random encounter, they are sentient individuals and the game rewards you for treating them as such. It was a symbolic gesture.
