Why context is important

“matpat gave the pope undertale” sounds way different than “matpat met the pope while representing the YouTube gaming community and it’s customary to give the pope a gift that’s reflective of the culture your represent and he chose undertale, a game about choices, consequences and reflect and peace/love”

how about “matpat was given a rare opportunity to speak to the pope and he gave him a meme game”

None of Undertale’s virtues change the fact that it’s really arrogant to assume a major religious leader will take time to play your favorite game.

Also, maybe if you want to be taken seriously don’t give the pope googly eyes in your thumbnail.

Except he knows the pope probably won’t play it and the gesture was symbolic. Did you even watch the video to get context or are you just mindlessly hating based on what you’ve heard through hearsay?

Was the part where he compared gamers to Orlando shooting victims hearsay or

That and he could’ve gotten him an Atari with pong. At least that would have more cultural significance as being one of the first video games ever made. He could’ve talked about the benefits of gaming bringing people closer together and whatnot but instead he blows it talking out of his ass moreso than usually.

Comparing gamers to the Orlando shooting was indeed hearsay. The only time he mentioned Orlando was to say that the world (not gamers) need peace and equality more than ever right now.

As for the Atari, it does has some historical significance but doesn’t symbolize equality, pacifism and mercy which was the reason he chose undertale. Because pope Francis proclaimed this year to be the year of mercy. The year of actually recognizing people as equals. And what better game than one that rewards that?
