I’ve said “I hate this” so many times on this website, and never actually meant it, because “I hate this” is just shorthand for ‘this is an example of a meme given a twist I wasn’t expecting with intent to surprise’. Which is, in of itself, a meme on this site. God damn it.

But this… This is something else.

The rapidity of a meme’s introduction to its zenith to its decline is so rapid that in ten years, you’ll need a damn twenty-page manual to explain this. It’ll be as unfunny and hard to explain as jokes in Shakespeare plays, except even more inexplicable because fuck, at least Shakespeare’s jokes are usually about anal or fucking your mother, good wholesome sex jokes we can all get behind.

I can explain loss!

The origins of loss are with the webcomic, ctrl+alt+del
Its about the main character who is so stupid, nobody would actually listen to anythign they have to say in real life but since the web comic is basically the internet version of a happy maddison film, of course the people who actually have sense listen to everything the main character says and are always surprised when it goes wrong. Since he was a loser and it’s unfathomably self indulgent, of course the loser gets to marry the hot girl. Now, throughout the entire series, the creator only ever drew a few faces and poses and only ever in 4 panels arranged in a rectangle. This breaks up the image and makes it unable to flow whenever there’s supposed to be a fast paced scene and it leads to it being unable to properly convey dramatic tension due to the limited angles he draws.
Anywho, the main character and his wife end up expecting a baby, but that’s where loss comes in. For no reason other than to add drama, he makes the pregnancy be a miscarriage. Now, as I stated before, due to the shape of the comic and the limited angles, the creator cannot convey fast paced, dramatic scenes very well. Loss was supposed to be a dramatic, fast paced scene but because he uses only one expression, everyone looks tired and the way the comic is shaped, it breaks up the tension. The fact that he could fuck up such an important scene and it was clear he jumped the shark was memeworthy so then people started editing the pic into places. Soon it evolved into editing other pics or grabbing four screenshots to look like loss. Alwasy one panel of someone walking through a door, two panels of two people talking to each other and one panel of someone laying down. From there it evolved to the minimalistic meme where people attempt to make it as small as possible or make it so people have to figure it out. Essentially, it is the visual form of a rick roll.
