In Austin I’m considered normal.

So the “keep Austin weird” thing actually began as a small business promotional campaign in Austin. “Keep Austin Local”, if you will. However this mantra expanded to define the personality of the city and how unusual Austin is when compared to the rest of Texas (if not the stereotypical South as a whole).

Austin is very much the Portland/San Fransisco of the south. This is where the beatniks and hippies flocked during the infancy of their movements, and their bohemian attitudes left an indelible mark on the city. The city of Austin isn’t perfect, but as a whole it promotes environmentally friendly practices, pedestrian lifestyles, artistic expression, and is generally very accommodating to people of all walks of lives. Which compared to the “idea” of Texas makes it seem “weird”.

Which makes people like Rev and I normal there.
