i hate the term ‘politically correct’. i hate that encouraging human compassion, empathy, and basic decency as a society-wide expectation has been reduced to simple ‘political correctness’, like it’s a chore to be undertaken, like not being a bigot is such an inconvenience. no offence, but fuck anyone that uses that term unironically, especially those who criticise it. truly, fuck you

I disagree with this. With society becoming more politically correct, it has become increasingly difficult to have meaningful discourse on things you do not like. When Obama was first elected to the presidency, political correctness reared its ugly head. Any statement of “I didn’t vote for him, ” regardless of the reason, was met with the same response: “What are you? A racist?” I never thought he would be a good president; it was never about his race.

And more recently, the whole debacle with the Ghostbusters movie. Again, unable to have any meaningful discussion about why the movie might be bad. And again, it fell back on the PC thinking of, “he didn’t like/see the movie, obviously he hates women.”

And that’s the major reason why I complain about the whole PC culture. It’s not about compassion or human decency, it’s about using language to prevent any kind of discourse that may not be the same thinking as you. And as someone who holds a communications degree, that truly disappoints me.

I find it hard to figure out which side to be on in this. While the people who espouse political correctness sometimes go too far, there are people who use “Society is too politically correct” as a shield to be racist, bigoted, and generally all-around assholes.

Neither side is perfect. And both sides pretend their side isn’t flawed and full of assholes who are abusing the debate to cover their desires to impose their will on others or be bigots.

I believe it’s similar to circular politics where after a point, both extremes are indistinguishable from each other. yes people should treat others as human beings with respect but not at the cost of dehumanizing others. people who are extreme enough to be considered SJW (you know, the kind who think anyone who doesn’t think like them should be lynched) are no better than republicans.
