youtube heros gives me horrible flashbacks of flipnote hatena. hatena, too, had a system where people could flag anyhting and gain a reward. It was a horrible cesspool.

So my understanding is that because YouTube is working at a near loss they are attempting to bring in new advertisers. To do that they gotta clean up the site (hence the new rules against vulgarity and such) to shut down channels like leafy, keemstar, and “gone sexual” style channels. Youtube Heroes is YouTube’s attempt to be ADA compliant (reward people to make completely inaccurate captions rather than the automated inaccurate system) and to moderate the millions of videos that exist. I understand that there would be very little way for YouTube to actually moderate with real people but this is not a solution either. Additionally the flagging system could easily be abused. One salty person could destroy a completely innocent person just because they don’t like their content. It’s dumb.
