MFW the guy in front of you is taking creepy video of the ice girls in front of his horrified teenage daughter…
I’m being clueless here, someone please enlighten me.
So I looked up ‘ice girl’– apparently they’re cheerleaders in hockey, but it looks like she’s pushing a broom on the ice?
Is it even possible to take a non-creepy video, or what specifically is he doing that is making it creepy? If I hazarded a guess, I’m guessing he’s got the camera zoomed in on her, which… okay, yeah.
I should probably go to sleep early tonight. I just spent, like, 5 minutes worrying about if I was at a hockey game and the cheerleaders were doing awesome stunts or whatnot, what the proper protocol is. And I don’t even watch hockey.
I don’t think you have the proper “ice girls” I think in this context it means female rink maintenance technician. Yes some teams do have cheerleaders but this looks like one of the crew that goes on the ice before the Zamboni to clear the worst of the snow and the nets for the ice can be redone between periods.
From a creepy / non creepy standpoint unless you know the person, why would you bother filming a rink cleaner.
Sorry for any confusion, I forgot the proper name - in the Ducks hierarchy, they call these ladies “Power Players”! They’re basically ice girls and general cheerleader types! They help clear the ice (with several other ice fellas, too), but they also help with T-shirt tossing, giveaways and contests, and generally helping to cheer in the stands! They’re not like football cheerleaders who stand on the side and cheer, since that doesn’t really work on the ice. But when they have those “dance cam” moments in the crowd, the Power Players usually dance along too! They end up doing a lot of cheers on the video board, but it’s not like cheerleading, per se. I think they also assist Wild Wing! So they’re like cheerleaders, but less dancing!
I agree with 2mahnas, I think it’s fine to take a picture with the Power Players (which they do a lot, I see them in the hallways sometimes!) but it seems a little voyeuristic to film them while they’re working.
Oh! Okay, yeah, that makes more sense. I was wondering what she was doing, if it was, like, maybe a halftime curling show, where yeah, I could see someone recording it (but not so zoomed in). Maybe if it was his first hockey game and found the sweeping interesting but that’s a stretch. Besides, if that were the case, it’s much better to record extreme zamboni action. Anyways, thanks for clearing that up!
Also, I now like the term “Extreme zamboni action.” EXTREEEEME!
Like, a monster truck with an ice scraper
Does a DIY zamboni count as extreme?
(look i just wanted an excuse to post this. don’t judge me)
EXTREEEEEME!!
Not gonna lie, Extreme Zamboni racing would be awesome.
Best lap times on the redbull crashed ice track wins.
EXTREEEEEME!
Also, so much love for Red Green
