It’s almost like when you’re body is covered in a large cloak and veil, there would be heavy shadows on your skin. Not to mention that mural is over 5k years old and from what we have seen from garnet and pearl, gems hair as well as their overall colours can shift from one shade to another. Even drastically over the course of millennia.

So no, it isn’t whitewashing. What it means is that at some point after pink diamond was shattered and the rebellion was full on war, blue diamond was poofed and regenerated.
