Then why did Valve name him Ludwig? Did they open a dictionary of German names and randomly picked one? Was someone listening to Ludwig van Beethoven at the time of developing the story? Or did they take real person as reference?

Carl Ludwig, a German physiologist (1816 - 1895), might be a good candidate.

I mean look at him! He has the same glasses as Medic does!!!11!!1

If that isn’t proof enough for you, here is an invention he come up with. It’s not an Überheart device, but still: Die Stromuhr - A device that was plugged between the two ends of a cut bloodvessel to measure the strength of bloodflow.
