They might not be directly connected, but it could be at least the inspiration for the art direction of the scene.

so im not crazy then. yesternight i was discussing with a friend the possibility that BotW could be before Wind Waker :v

I posited this as a theory back around E3. So far I haven’t seen anything to prove me wrong.

That would explain the presence from elements of both established timelines being in the same game. The elements that we’re not used to seeing in the Wind Waker timeline would get wiped out somewhere between Breath of the Wild and the events of Wind Waker.

But the hero didn’t return which lead the goddesses to flood hyrule. That means you’re not playing as link!
