This is a mean-spirited little device. Before TV and video games, we apparently slaked our thirst for comedic violence by tricking people into getting stabbed with rusty needles. I like to call this thing “the tetanus machine”. My dad got it for free after an antique dealer tricked him into bloodying himself - he described the horrific process of dying by tetanus and the guy was guilted into handing it over.
We have an older one somewhere, which features a little snake popping out of a hole to stab you with a needle for a tongue.
