Police, protesters violently clash ahead of inauguration parade

  • More than 90 protesters have been arrested in Washington, D.C., after violent protests broke out on city streets during Trump’s inauguration.
  • Police fired pepper spray canisters and let off flash-bangs to try and disperse protesters, who were breaking windows and throwing rocks and bricks.
  • The protests took place in downtown Washington, D.C., not far from the parade route that Trump is slated to drive down following a lunch at the U.S. Capitol.
  • The violent clashes were carried out by a small group compared to the number of peaceful protesters in the city. At press time, about 30 protesters were being corralled by police. Read more
