That’s a hard question, I don’t wanna say yes but it’s hard to say if that was the only way.
it’s not so much about eddy learning but more about eddy finally being free from someoen who abused him in the past while at the same time earning the respect of the kids. By beating up his brother he was finally free an the other kids stopped seeing him as an annoying greedy person who keeps trying to steal money from them
