asked:
What happened to the Voltron fandom?
answered:

About 95% of Voltron posts are about gay shipping, despite the show having no romantic angle whatsoever. I’ve seen baseless shipping before, of course, but never to this degree. It’s kinda crazy.

What part of the internet have you been on baseless shipping has always been like 70% of fandom.

At least the ones I’ve always been in

You don’t understand. This isn’t your normal every day shipping. This is… ADVANCED shipping.

There’s no theories that don’t involve shipping. Not much fanart that doesn’t involve shipping. Almost no shitposting whatsoever.

It’s. Just. Shipping. Shipping, the magnitude of which has never been seen before.

And it’s all baseless. All of it. There isn’t a shred of canonicity anywhere.

It’s horrifying.

Alright people are interpreting this post wrong, so lemme clear some air. Shouldn’t have expected people to be able to tell how serious I am about different things.

My problem isn’t that the shipping is baseless, which is what most people seem to take from this. That’s secondary, at best. I could appreciate the shipping a bit more if I could see any reflection of it in canon, but that’s not the main issue here.

My problem with all this is that this fandom produces so much ship content, more than any other fandom I’ve seen or been in, that it makes it very hard to find content related to the show that isn’t ship-related.

The usual fanart, shitposting and memes that I expect from a fandom just get drowned in all the shipping stuff to the point where it becomes difficult for me to want to participate at all. Which is too bad, because I rather like Voltron, being one of the only major action cartoons out there right now, let alone a sci-fi one.

I know this post won’t suddenly change any of that but it’s just kinda. Too bad, y'know?
