Moray Eels

When you talk about aquatic animals that have to swim to breathe, most people think of the large pelagic sharks - but eels also have to keep water constantly flowing over their gills. Since eels are ambush predators, they’ve solved that problem with this gaping behavior. By opening and closing their mouths, they use their muscles to force water through and over their gills so they’re able to stay stationary.
