why do people treat vriska and (vriska) as though they are entirely different characters

revolutionarygays

like, (vriska) is not Alternate Universe Vriska Where She’s Not Bad. she’s literally the exact same character except she escaped the stress and chaos that vriska has dealt with her entire life. 13 out of 16 years of vriska’s life were identical for (vriska), and the 3 years vriska was trapped on Hell Meteor didn’t magically fix her for obvious reasons, whereas being alone and being free of constant meltdown-inducing stress and trauma and making more functional friendships/relationships helped her

revolutionarygays

(vriska) doesn’t exist narratively to be like “vriska could have been good… but she’s so Truly Evil she never did!” or “vriska is so cruel she hated even her GOOD VERSION OF HERSELF!”

vriska’s interactions with (vriska) are heavy-handed introspections into vriska’s feelings about herself as a person. vriska hates (vriska) because she loathes herself and always has, because seeing herself soft hurts despite needing that all of her life, and because (vriska) is happier than she ever has been. (vriska) even makes a point of reminding vriska that in their shared lifetime they were never happy.

(vriska) is not some AU vriska, she’s the exact same character but removed from the circumstances that have made her who she is. vriska has always very blatantly been an abused child with a short temper who is sensitive and has poor social skills, while wearing a mask to convince herself she’s none of these things… i don’t know why people think removing an abused teenager from the circumstances that made them awful wouldn’t vastly improve their self-esteem, behavior, and quality of life
