There are self-identified fascists making nazi salutes in public streets in our own country in praise of a U.S. president and I still have doddering middle aged uncles who think “all this nazi stuff” is just “alarmist liberal speak”
I’m still reeling from how all the people who made edgy-ironic antisemitic meme jokes were actually being serious all along
YEAH FUCK
When I was new to the internet, “shock humor” was just the status quo across all the largest communities and anyone who so much as raised an eyebrow at all the nazi references and sexism was driven off through cries of “THEY’RE JUST JOKES” and “FICTION=/=REALITY.”
Now years later there are loud enough movements sincerely surrounding these things that many of the same people who swore it was “just sarcasm and irony” now demonstrate that this was a facade the whole time.
Nothing ironic stays ironic.
