Misrepresentation leads to shitty, widely believed stereotypes that are seen as fact by the everyday public but are not at all. Like, for example, the belief that all pit bulls are vicious beasts due to misrepresentation by the media.
No representation just leads to ignorance and the need for education, which many people are open to.
