Capitalism takes myths to function. And it’s not just about valuing dirty paper portraits of ugly slavers.
For capitalism to be seen as the only viable economic model, people have to believe that humans are too selfish to cooperate for the common good. Something which is kinda the core of a social animal’s instincts.
Or that we could never produce enough essentials to provide a comfortable life for all. You have to believe in bosses, and cops, and that the land belongs to whoever takes it by force.
You must believe at so many turns that humans are naturally cruel.
