fair tw: discrimination, homophobia

I used to work at a gas station a few months ago. My wife also worked in the same gas station. Obviously, we’re both lesbians and very proud about it.

Our management at this stupid place was HORRIBLE. When our hiring manager, who was hella awesome, quit, then we got a replacement, then he quit and came in this one dude. Oh boy, where do I start.

First off, he was trying to get rid of me and my co-workers by treating us all terribly. He cut our pay (even though we all were supposed to get paid overtime, do note that my wife and I as well as our other co-workers usually worked over 10 hours (around 12-15 at max)) and started to hire in his friends. Yes, his friends. He also made his friends his assistant managers without the proper training. Did I mention they also slept on the job? Anyway…

After I found out that we were being treated this way, I put in my two weeks. No one there other than my wife and co-workers took my severe anxiety and disability seriously. Instead, I was not allowed to have a chair to sit at while I was working the front because “corporate would think we were stealing money”. Which how they thought that is fucking above me. I was also made fun of by the new manager (imma call him J from this point on) for needing to take off certain days for my depression therapy and physical therapy appointments for my disability. 
I called off on my last day and he proceeded to harass me via text and told me that I WOULD HAVE TO FIND SOMEONE TO WORK MY SHIFT FOR ME EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT MY JOB TO DO SO. I told him that’s not my job and he argued with me on this. To that I said “I quit sorry.” and all he said was “that’s fine!”

Obvious fucking jerkass right?

well it doesn’t fucking end there.

My wife was still working there even though I warned her about this fucking jackass. I understand why and I did all I could to help her through this shit. She was starting to receive the other hand of his abuse. He would over work her (around 12 hours, she was only 19 and could not sell alcohol to which he made fun of her for it) to the point where her hair would fall out from panic attacks, anxiety and stress. Speaking of my wife’s anxiety, he also does not fucking grasp the concept of it. There was a time where she was having a panic attack and he came in and basically told her “you have no reason to be upset” even though she was overwhelmed by the crowds of people. She shouldn’t have been working second shift. Ever. I would’ve taken over second shift in a heartbeat just so she wouldnt have to. 

So he of course was abusing his authority over her by overworking her, making fun of her anxiety, and… yeah. 

So my wife calls me up one day and she’s sobbing hard on the line having an anxiety attack. My protective ass rushes up to the fucking gas station and I basically grab her and I’m like, “cmon this is ridiculous” and left.

Fast forward to this present day. My wife went back to that store because her previous job wasn’t paying enough. The store is under new management so J wasn’t there anymore when she started.

She finds out that uh… heh…. J was laundering money and staling from the store. He also lied about his age saying he was over 21 when he was actually 19. He was caught stealing from the store, and also tried to ruin one of our co-workers marriage. 

She also found out, TODAY, that the reason J hated us and wanted to fire us was because we were gay and married. He was a catholic who thinks we are unholy people who are out to ruin his religion.

So what did corporate do? Not only fire his worthless ass, but also fire his district manager for allowing him to treat us in this fashion and obviously discriminate against us. He is now unable to get a job because of this on his permanent employee record. He also may have felony charges for laundering money from the store.

Take that mother fucker. Karma’s a bitch.
