im kind of tired of the “watch it because it’s gay” culture… because then it turns into “if you don’t watch this show you don’t actually care about good representation” like no offense but not everyone is interested in or can get engaged in a show about demons and cowboys? or whatever the show it is you’re trying to sell? let people watch what they want
also “watch it because it’s gay” very easily becomes “you HAVE to like it because it’s gay”–and if you critique the piece of media for being BAD representation, for being racist, for being sexist, etc, people again rehash the “you’re ruining our chances at getting representation!!!!”
like…uh, sorry, but as someone who’s LGBT I’m allowed to critique shows that claim to be for me, especially if they’re doing a shitty job of it–I’m not obligated to act like it’s a good show because of canon representation if it’s NOT a good show.
not to mention more often than not “watch it because its kind of gay” shows are not gay at all and are queerbaiting like sherlock.
