hyperunfocused:

you know, one thing i always loved about bojack horseman is that. they have bojack face consequences for his actions. like a lotta times with characters like bojack, they can say or do whatever the hell they want and never get in trouble for it, bc they’re funny or ‘correct’ in the writers eyes. but with bojack? even if it seems like the writers are agreeing with him, which seems to be rare, they don’t let him just get away with it. he faces loss, he gets rejected. he doesn’t always win. hell, it’s actually pretty rare that he does win. and one thing that always struck me is that people leave him. like, how many times have you seen in a cartoon someone leaving the main protag bc of their toxicity, and actually staying gone? hell, even in live action tv, i can’t really recall any examples of this happening.

it just, it’s one of the reasons i can love bojack and still hate the ‘asshole main protag who always says the funniest things’ trope. because with bojack, he’s not getting off scot free bc the writers decreed it must be so.
