One thing I think doesn’t get brought up enough is how different countries teach different events in history. Like how do the French teach about the French Revolution? Do they talk about their heroes? How do they talk about the American revolution? Do they up-play their contributions? What about the British? How do they teach WW1, or the Treaty of Versailles? 

My history professor had a friend who went to school in one of the southern states in the U.S. and they talked about the “Northern aggression” in reference to the Civil War.

I went to school in the south. It’s known as the “War of Northern Aggression” and we get a bunch of statistics about how most southerners never owned slaves and it was all the big plantation owners. Also a lot of stuff about State’s Rights. Let me tell you, it was shocking to learn how many lies I was told as fact. 

dont forget that on a national level, american education tries to downplay the role in native american genocides to the point where kids are taught “natives and pilgrims were friends and the natives were savages who needed civilization”
