so. many. fucking. people. try to pet my service dog
it’s INFURIATING
and makes me feel the worst anxiety ever which is what she’s with me for to PREVENT
her back says DO NOT TOUCH in huge-ass letters
and “PTSD SERVICE DOG”
but people still try to baby talk her and tell her to come over and try to pet her
and because of her previous owner’s abuse, her training has been fucked up pretty bad
so she easily gets distracted by people reaching out to to her now because she’s super anxious and excitable
and it’s happened so often that I can’t take her with me any more, because she’s learned from these assholes that it’s totally okay to run up and sniff people and try to get pet by people
Now whenever she sees people she tries to run up to them and get attention from them and I always get a small anxiety attack whenever it happens, so now the only thing I can do is keep her at home but my anxiety is at its worst when I’m out in public.
People petting my dog and calling to her, not bothering to even ASK, have just denied me something that was really vital to keeping me able to go in public on my own.
I have to save up 1,000 dollars to get her re-trained because people would not fucking leave her alone.
So thanks for that.
It’s not some harmless little thing to pet the dog, they are WORKING and if they learn they can get pets while working? They become distracted, which is the exact opposite of what a service animal should be doing.
so yeah. DO. NOT. PET. SERVICE. ANIMALS.
How did you get your PTSD service dog certified?
She was already certified when I got her, I just needed to have my therapist give a medical note to recommend a service dog for my condition.
