“During Universal Pictures’ big presentation at CinemaCon yesterday, the studio announced some exciting news about future projects from Illumination Entertainment, the studio behind the Despicable Me films, Minions spin-off and The Lorax. One of those announcements was about the upcoming adaptation of Dr Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas story.
Illumination Entertainment’s adaptation of Dr Seuss’ Grinch will open in theaters on November 17, 2017.”
Yea yea, Blueberry Cabbagepatch, whatever,
Is anyone else more concerned by how astonishingly GENERIC this design looks, or is it just me?
Hopefully it’ll look more promising once they release more images or animation from the film, but his design here looks really uninspired and even “polished” in a way, like a really well-groomed Grinch. It just doesn’t fit right with me.
Maybe more clumpy fur would be a good step. But It’s the eyes.
Like 5 mins and it looks at least little better. The Grinch should have eyes that are kinda unhealthy & piercing eyes. Downside is, they stand out less now but atleast feel right. You could maybe use the pinkish eyes from the book.
Hmm. Well I did say I only took 5 minutes.
That would definitely help,
But the real kicker for me is another particular detail they could get wrong:
THE TEETH
Both the Chuck Jones and the Jim Carrey versions of the Grinch make a point to give him his signature crooked chompers.
What concerns me is Illumination’s tendency to give just about all of their characters perfectly aligned rows of pill-shaped teeth.
These aren’t even half of what I found in the trailers.
I’ll hold off too much judgement until more images are released, but I can’t say I have much high hopes for this.
This is relevant again
