The premise of minimum wage, when it was introduced, was that a single wage earner should be able to own a home and support a family. That was what it was based on; a full time job, any job, should be able to accomplish this.
The fact people scoff at this idea if presented nowadays, as though the people that ring up your groceries or hand you your burgers don’t deserve the luxury of a home and a family, is disgusting.
Also if a livable wage breaks the system then the system deserves to be broken.
I also hate it when people are like, “But what about small businesses, not mega-corporations like McDonald’s! My Uncle Shitty McFuckface had a small business with 15 people employed, and when they hiked up the minimum wage and made him supply them with medical care, he couldn’t, and he went out of business!”
Like, good? He was making his living off of not paying 15 people not being paid for their time so THEY could live. His shitty business should fail if it can’t make enough to pay its employees for their work. That’s how businesses work.
