The word “pangolin” comes from the Malay word pengguling, meaning “one who rolls up”. In China, meanwhile, the Cantonese word for pangolin translates to “the animal that digs through the mountain.” Another Cantonese term for them is “Chun-shua-cap,” which translates to “scaly hill-borer.”
