why is broccoli seen as this universally hated vegetable. broccoli is delicious
Broccoli can be delicious, but when over cooked it’s often unbearably bitter. In addition, children’s developing tastebuds are more sensitive to bitter tastes- this is an evolutionary advantage because it makes our kids less likely to stick bitter poisenous plants in their mouths. So some overcooked broccoli that’s tolerable to an adult may be completely unpalatable to a kid. Being forced to eat it can make people hate it even into adulthood. Additionally, texture eaters and people with sensory sensitivity issues may just dispise the mushy fibrous texture of cooked broccoli.
Basically this makes the range of people who can enjoy broccoli narrower than most foods.
Personally, I like it raw with ranch but I can’t stand it cooked.
