As I understand, the black and brown stripes were added in an attempt to be more inclusive of PoC in the LGBT community, since the focus often falls onto white gays. Without PoC in the community, we wouldn’t even have pride or the rights we do now. Intersectionality, in my opinion, is also vitally important. (Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong. I’m white so I’m certainly no expert on the matter.)

EDIT: I have also been informed that the black stripe is also there to remember those who died during the AIDS crisis.
