polygamy and polyamory are not the same thing. polygamy describes the inherently misogynistic institution employed by some religions in which a man has multiple wives, all meant to serve him.

also interesting thing about moromon polygamy, it was done that way because on the trip to the area where mormonism was created, most of the med died and the women would have had a lot of trouble supporting themselves alone in the harsh settlement.

  4. trig-loves-clowning-around said: Polygamy isn’t Mormon, Mormons follow the law some people broke off from the mormon church because they banned polygamy and when Mormons did have polygamy they did it because they all wanted to bring as many to heaven as possible because marriage is an essential part of ‘God’s plan’ not servitude. And lots of the men were killed by others because it was legal at the time but ya know. (I was raised in a mormon house-hold)

It includes polygyny (a husband having several wives), polyandry (a wife having several husbands), and mixed constellations (although those are hard to find in any culture). It’s different from polyamory since polygamy is per definition one-sided, while polyamory usually isn’t.
