why does anyone in Gotham even bother doing crime like you KNOW the second you leave the bank with the money you just stole Bruce Wayne is gonna be chilling on a bench on the other side of the street in his bat fursuit like “hey bitch u better not be breaking the law”

because batman never bothered attacking the roots of social problems

you know what… you’re right call him out!!

Wayne Enterprises has a jobs program for those who are fresh out of prison.

He routinely takes major villains with mental health issues to an asylum where professionals are there to help.

Or do you just read the fight scenes?

Because

WHAT THE HELL KIND OF BATMAN HAVE YOU BEEN WATCHING?

Fake geeks, I swear to god…

The best part is that most of the lore, especially Batman: The Animated Series, gets to a point in Batman’s career when everyone asks the question of why someone would rob a bank in Gotham when they know that if they approached Batman, and coincidentally Bruce Wayne, they could get the help they needed.

That’s the whole point of Batman. Granted there have been modernized adaptations that paint him out to be nothing more than a growling, punching, antihero. But nobody ever said those adaptations were canon or even good. The original Batman comics, most of the newer comics, the Animated Series, the animated spinoffs, even the Arkham video games all operate under the lore that Batman does everything within his power to help as many villains as he can, even if it means going against cops, politicians, etc. That’s what originally made him the vigilante. He went against the social norms. He did everything that a hero shouldn’t do, not in a murderous way, but in a taking-sides way. Every other hero swoops in to save the corrupt politician from the criminal. Batman swoops in to save the criminal from the corrupt politician.

I think most of the misinterpretation of Batman “not addressing the social issues” or whatever comes from the Dark Night Trilogy and the fact that the criminals are still always at large but that second one REALLY isn’t Batman’s fault but let me focus on the first one, with the preface that this really isn’t a new hot take and of you’ve seen the Cracked After Hours episode on the Dark Knight Trilogy you know what I’m gonna say but HEY LETS GO!

So the first movie of the trilogy Batman Begins has this great scene where young Bruce Wayne asks his dad if he built the train that they’re riding on that goes all thru Gotham. His dad explains yes they did it because people had trouble getting to work so BOOM train. At the END of the movie, Batman/adult Bruce Wayne has to blow up that train and the tracks due to Scarecrow and his fear gas and Ra’s gl Ghul..it’s never shown that this train was rebuilt. Not even the wiki mentions it was.

The second movie is flawless and shall not be touched because Bruce Wayne/Batman IS trying to help by making a Gotham that doesn’t need Batman even though it hella backfires.

The THIRD movie, however, shows that Wayne Enterprises HAD a bunch of charities to help the kids around Gotham but Bruce Wayne didn’t even know he was bankrupt by the time that’s addressed and didn’t take any steps to fix this other than just Batmanning some more.

So not only has the Batman in this trilogy destroyed many of people’s only form of transportation to their jobs, he’s also not taken the steps to, like, make Gotham better with his own power even though that’s what he was trying to do in the second movie. Yeah it backfires but he doesn’t even keep up with his own company to ensure stuff still continues to be okay or ya know REBUILD the train his parents made that helped people.

THIS is the Batman that didn’t actually fix the social problems, NOT the Batman in the comics or animated TV show. Also for a criminal getting away with a crime and surviving the Bat is like a badge of honor and pride, which I think is why the criminals in Gotham are always weirdly honorable. Just saying XD

one of my favourite episodes from the animated series is when bruce manages to get harvey both the psychiatric help and the plastic surgery needed to do away with big bad harv leaving him a regular person, not two face. AND IT WORKED! at least until some bitches came specifically looking for twoface and fucked it up
