Well we all know that in order to afford any health anything in the US you need insurance right? Medication, doctor visits, basic medical needs, any kind of medical equipment from a bandaid and roll of gauze to a boot cast and crutches cost an INSANE amount of dollars. This is because the hospitals and most doctor offices discount these rates for insurance companies but charge those without insurance full price.
Okay so no big deal you just get insurance, pay a monthly fee often taken right out of your paycheck or whatever depending on your place of work or insurance company and you’re good right? Hell people can stay on their parent’s insurance till they’re 26 and the Affordable Care Act was a thing so yeah no problem right?
Except that every insurance company covers different doctors, hospitals, procedures, etc, that can change yearly, AND most insurance companies WILL NOT insure you if you have a “pre-existing condition.”
These pre-existing conditions can be anything from heart problems, diabetes, cancer, mental illnesses, etc. but can ALSO be shit like pregnancy, obesity, and stuff that isn’t ACTUALLY pre-existing but that you had when you applied for insurance so they’ll deny you. With some companies you can break your leg, apply for insurance afterwards to help cover medical costs (ya know what insurance is SUPPOSED TO DO), and they WILL NOT approve you. Meaning if you don’t get insurance when you’re 100% healthy and fine you could have a harder time getting it.
And this isn’t even touching on seniors needing health insurance and how life insurance can turn you down for bullshit reasons including but not limited to being slightly under weight or having too many headaches in a year.
The US healthcare system is BUUUUUUULLLLLLLSHIT
