sunderedstar:

realizing that Megatron’s name is one massive pun in the original Cybertronian is giving me a midlife crisis.

people mistake his name for ‘Megaton’ repeatedly, which is a unit of explosive power. which is understandable…because Megatron says himself that the [tron] comes from the word for a type of bomb. he himself specifically doesn’t compare it to the subatomic particle, but to the bomb. they’re not tripping up on a single letter in Neocybex - they’re tripping up because they see the morpheme/glyph for [bomb] at the end of his name and retroactively go, ‘Ah yes, [bomb]. I must’ve just processed the name Megaton. Cool cool.’

when Megatron corrects the pronunciation, other people accept the correction and associate it with the -tron from electron(ic). but Megatron corrects that too. the [bomb] reference is key. his name is so close to ‘megaton,’ in meaning and in sound, which is why they have so much trouble with it.

([Mega[tron][tarn]] probably winds up being a tongue twister)

and all of this is irrelevant in the end, because Megatron is a miner. who works in a mine. and a mine…is a pun for a (land) mine.

he’s a mine explosion. those kill people, Megatron.

it’s like Whirl being a helicopter all over again.
