Videogames:you can choose from twenty different eyelashes!!!! oh but you can’t be fat
Yeah, whine about how you can’t have a fat character that can scale walls, or sprint. Please whine more.
you’re so right kiddo….. games are very realistic……. like the parts where you die and then come back again? classic realism.
but we can’t have fat people in videogames because fat people are the real fantasy creatures and not like… the dragons. and of course, every thin person can scale a wall. sure sure.
Y’know what, here’s something that’s been pissing me off for a while.
Fat? Easy to gain. So so easy. Our bodies want to keep fat around, because we’re designed not to starve.
Dropping fat? NOT so easy. When people talk about “losing fat,” what they’re saying is “I need to override millions of years of genetics to convince my body I’m not dying and it doesn’t need this carefully-stored fuel.” Dieting? Your body thinks it’s starving. Work out like crazy? Your body thinks it’s in a situation where it needs to bring the hammer down on the regular, and that means you need more fuel – speaking just for myself, I want to eat the world after I lift. That shit doesn’t melt away, even if you’ve been training like a motherfucking monster for months and eating right, because the body wants to keep it.
So yeah, the “eat less move more” doctrine can fuck itself right in the face.
There are very, very active fat people, fat people who are experts at every sport and physical activity you can imagine. But because fat rests on top of the muscle, you don’t know when we’re jacked. Oh, sure, sometimes you can get a idea, if a person is WILDLY active, like for a fucking living. Here’s Samoa Joe, the NXT pro wrestling champion who was literally dethroned last night:
Yeah, you can see there’s a lot of power there.
But a lot of times you can’t. Here’s Vince Wilfork, two-time Superbowl tackling champion:
And here’s Holley Mangold, 2012 superheavyweight division Olympian:
These are people who fight (and flip, and do all kinds of crazy shit in Joe’s case), and run, and lift for a living.
And they’re not unusual, as much as you’d like to think so. The world is full of fat powerhouses, of fat runners, of fat Crossfitters, and they’re just as good at doing the thing as their smaller counterparts.
So realism? Fuck off. The only reason we don’t have fat game characters is because society is fatphobic as fuck.
Also? Saints Row lets you be fat, *and hot,* so don’t even come at me with “nobody wants that.”
“fat people can’t climb though”
(Exhibit A: Fezzik carrying 3 people up a cliff)
“yeah but that’s fictional!”
and video games aren’t?
Apparently weight weighs differently if it’s fat instead of, like, eight different machine guns and a rocket launcher?
Video games let you carry all sorts of shit, they can let you carry your own body.
(This got better) -V
this post is valid but uuuhhhh ur body does not keep fat bc it needs it. it doesn’t keep fat bc it thinks it’s starving or whatever. your body keeps fat bc fat has to be worked off. actively.
human beings are literally made to move. our bodies are made of levers. we’re supposed to move - often, to keep healthy. when we don’t move, we accumulate fat. not bc we’re supposed to or bc our body “doesn’t want to let go” but bc we burn carbs and fat for energy, and carbs go first, then 30 minutes of exercise later, fat. which is why experts say to get at least 30 minutes of exercise five times a week at ur max heartrate for weight loss/health benefits.
the reason athletes who lift heavy things are still fat is bc it takes certain exercises to lose fat. if ur lifting slow, heavy weight then what ur doing is maximizing ur strength - not working through that max heartrate, which is what is gonna lose you that fat. lift lower weight fast w frequent, short breaks and that’s how you’ll lose weight but not how you’ll gain muscle. run, do an elliptical - that’s how you’ll lose weight but not gain muscle. you can be an athlete and still be fat, it all depends on the exercises you do.
wrestlers don’t run. they’re encouraged to lift and to eat for their sport, which is why they’re heavy. tacklers in football don’t do much running - they’re supposed to be big to, y’know, tackle. that’s the point. same w lifters.
“eat less move more” is the wrong way to put it. you should calculate the number of calories you need in a day for your weight and your sex and plan to eat that and only that, while watching ur fat n carb intake A N D working out at ur max HR for at least 30 minutes fives times a week. that’ll keep u HEALTHY - it’s not always about being thin. some people can do exactly this and never lose all the weight. but at least they won’t be at a scary high risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, stroke, what have u.
bc contrary to this website’s beliefs, doctors aren’t always out to get u when they say that excess fat is bad for you. it IS. take two sedentary people who eat the same things and do the same things - one fat and one thin - and the person w all the fat is going to be at a higher risk for serious, potentially deadly diseases, even if the thin person is also unhealthy. all that fat is NOT what our body wants. our body adapts to it, that’s it.
i think i read somewhere this semester that 2/3rds of American adults are overweight or obese. and one of the leading causes of death in adults in America? cardiovascular disease.
we should have fat characters in video games, yeah, but i’ve seen this post thrown around carelessly before w inaccurate info on it and i wanted to clarify that, TLDR: ur body does not want fat. it has nowhere to put it so it keeps it. you have to actively lose fat, that’s why it stays. and nine times outta ten it’s NOT good for ur body.
I am Silver Tongue, I am an artist. I have many characters and you can check out my art in the art tag. I occasionally practice witchcraft though I don't do anything too complicated. I am girl 2 and don't know what else to put here.
