Two universal constants of high fantasy living:

  • If something falls into ruin a necromancer will move in 100% of the time
  • There is a critical mass of gold that will summon a dragon. If you keep accurate records and stay below it you’ll be fine

I’m sorry, sir, if you don’t renovate your summer keep and live in it at least one month out of the year, we’ll have to charge you with Negligent Dungeonization of Property. The old cellar laboratory might have belonged to your uncle, but if you aren’t going to use it, something will.

The players are a squad of government investigators, trying to prevent monsters from claiming new habitat. It’s mainly negotiation but sometimes people have an interest in attracting dangerous entities for their own purposes.

(Begins concocting AU for all of the lawful Collective peeps.)

Alarin would make a great tax collector.

“Sir, you can either pay  1000 gold coins NOW or 100 000 later, when the dragon destroys half of the City to get to your vault.”

Raulwocket would be the head of the records and job distribution network. “Alarin, Duke Korlan has been out of his keep in the swamp for 5 months. Due to location and his penchant for poor housekeeping the Guild Disaster Prevention Network needs you to investigate the site to make sure it hasn’t been infested by some form of ancient evil, group of bandits, dark spell caster, or oversized vermin. We also need you to deliver a notice to the Duke that upkeep and renovation is part of his contract of disaster and cataclysm prevention and failure to provide proper maintenance could lead to the seizure of the property.”.

Why do I feel like in this AU Icarus would be an extremely lazy yet effective intern?

I feel like Irrv and the kobolds would be the endearing, But ultimately ineffective villain group like team rocket. Trying constantly stop halt the collective in their efforts so more monster habits can be made. They are no where near the real villains of the series, and fail more often than not.
