Silver Tongue

reo-trashcan:

I just noticed something, digging around for some screencaps. I’m not about to “redeem the Diamonds in 60 minutes flat,” but at least with Blue, there’s some definite character growth to talk about here.

Blue is fixated upon how Pink used to make them all feel. All the things Pink did, and trying to unpack why Pink did those things. The purpose of play.

All that stuff with Yellow and Blue Pearls during Together Alone, and fun being “something you want to do, because it feels good,” rather than adhering to what you’re supposed to do, what’s expected of you, your purpose. I feel very strongly that the echo of the word purpose in Blue’s plea to White was deliberate. She doesn’t want to hurt people. And she hasn’t been allowed to do anything but that for thousands of years.

And then, at the end of Change Your Mind, BLUE is the one making everyone laugh.

Up until the events of Change Your Mind, Blue made everyone hurt because she was hurting. But she stopped using it, and didn’t even use it against Yellow when they argued. She’s no longer weaponizing her ability to control emotions. She wants to do things because they make other people happy. Making other people happy makes Blue happy. And she’s starting to understand that even if it might not be her “purpose,” she’s very good at it.
