In a mini homebrew campaign with a party of two 20lvl rogue/warlock characters, the pair is arriving at an old lighthouse that has been repurposed by a lich to serve as his lair. The beacon itself has been replaced with a crystal that glows in a beam of sickly green light that still spins around the lighthouse.

DM (me): Okay, as you approach, the beam immediately focuses on you two.

Player 1: So it’s basically Sauron’s eye?

DM: (chuckles) Yeah I suppose. Both of you roll constitution saving throws.

Player 2: Nat 1

Player 2: That’s a 2.

DM: Okay, so as the green beam hits you, both of you feel horrible pain as your skin begins to disintegrate. In addition to this, as both of you failed your saves, the last thing you both see before blacking out is hundreds of skeletons appearing out from under the snow and slowly shuffling towards you two.

Player1: Spooky scary skeletons, they’re serving Sauron’s eye…
