Was the record to take five steps or did he take more than five steps?

Previous record was five steps I believe

Do did he take more?

I feel like we’re ignoring the obvious question of “why the crap did some whacky bastard try carry a 1,430 lbs. log in the first place?”

Also the previous record was three steps (again why?) and our “Mountain that Rides” made it a full five steps

Because he could

So…. in doing some reading, I’m more in awe.

The “world record” actually comes from an Icelandic viking legend in which Orm Storulfsson carried the mast of a ship (with the same specifications as the log that Hafthor lifted) for three steps. According to legend, 50 men lifted the mast onto Orm’s back. He took three steps. After the third step, his back was broken and he was never again the same.

So it isn’t like he broke a world record that was set 50 years ago or something. This was a legend from 1000 years ago.

We are living in times where people overcome actual, literal legends.

That’s….awesome.

This still doesn´t answer the question as to why they both decided carrying a log that big would be a great decision.
