TIL that the “Dinosaurs” sitcom ended with the entire cast and all of dino-kind dying due to an Ice Age they caused from environmental neglect

Environmental neglect?  They nuked their volcanoes and caused a Nuclear Winter!  But yeah, everybody died.  It was actually sad and scary when I was a kid seeing that.

So this really-for-real happened?

My hand to God - these bugs used to migrate annually to eat this one type of flowering vine all the way down to nubs.  One bug survived, but the rest had their nests destroyed by the dinosaurs to make room for a wax fruit manufacturer.

The flowering vine started to grow out of control and shoved its way into every house on the continent.  Without the bugs there to eat it, it went crazy and started strangling people.

The dinosaur daughter told everyone to cut the plants back regularly and try to learn to live with the vine.  The dad’s boss, on the other hand, said that if there were clouds in the air, it would block the sunlight and the vine would die off en mas.

The boss bombed their volcanoes, causing massive amounts of gas and smoke and cloud cover.  I think I overstated - it wasn’t a nuclear winter, but it was a volcanic winter.

The thing that upset me the most as a kid was the little baby dinosaur sitting there asking what happened and what they were going to do.  The dad said they couldn’t move, because the whole world was affected.

The baby outright asked, “What’s going to happen to us?”  The family all answered that they didn’t know, but that they were all going to stay together and be right there with the baby the whole time.

Then the news report they watched said that the weather prediction was for ice and snow for the foreseeable future, and said goodnight and goodbye.  That was the end of the last episode.

I was a kid when I saw it.  I bawled my eyes out.

I heard they ended it this way, because they didn’t want to continue on with the series. But yeah, this one really messed up ending.

I was already a moody teen when this happened - it left such an impression on me that I never could watch the episode again, but I still have that ending memorized.  I watched re-runs of all the other episodes, but I couldn’t handle that one.  I bawled my eyes out the one time I did watch it.

sometimes content for young people needs to be heavy

and sometimes you have to name a puppet ‘handupme’

I’m not surprised. Like the series was pretty dark at times. I still remember the episode when the mother-in-law went to her class reunion, only to find out that she was the only one left alive.

Oh here it is.

This show was not subtle. Also those Dino suits were really damn good.
