so full disclosure as you may or may not know i didn’t actually watch anime like, as something that i could enjoy until about two years ago (i’m 22). so when like…weeb shit was going down in middle & high school, i was blissfully unaware of different anime discourse going on at the time. did i harass the anime club president? yes but that’s because he was a dick who’d watch ecchi and then act like irl PDA was horrible. idk man i just crashed the club for snacks and got called a tsundere or whatever the fuck
anyway. moving on.
from what i’ve gathered, hetalia is an anime/manga about humanized countries. which is cool except not because it’s very much based on stereotypes and just….not great. i mean it’s probably okay, to each ones own, but i’m like, an adult, so i try to consume content that actually makes me happy lol
on top of sterotyped personifications of countries they essentially woobiefy the axis powers of WWII by essentially having nazi germany be basically team rocket.

agenderfirebender liked this feylesbian said: hetalia is humanized countries which would be fine if the countries themselves werent based on the WWII era axis powers. With nazi germany being a main character. Thats why it gets so much hate, turning WWII into uwu animu comedy
th4nkyoub3n said: the humanized countries are from WWII, which leads to things like weeb kids wearing nazi uniforms because they like the characters and aren’t thinking about what wearing nazi uniforms signals to everyone else. at least, i think. this is still hearsay.

yeah its. anthropomorphized countries based on japanese stereotypes. mostly it takes place around world war ii and they stayed away from BIG issues but a lot of it… wasnt great looking back (i used to watch h*talia. ew @ me)
