Watched the Captain Marvel movie on the flight home from the US, and now I’m finally breaking to ask the question

What the heck was the point of Goose?

Yes yes, I know, awesome tentacle kitty. But really. Goose shows up out of nowhere to play deus ex machina, no explanation where they come from or why they are acting the way they are. Other than comedically freaking out the aliens who do recognize Goose as a flerken and not a kitty, and to, as said, deus up the place by eating antagonists and doom devices.

Goose got a freaking collar on, who supposedly tagged a flerken for a pet? Was it one of the aliens who KNEW or some idiot thinking they were an actual cat? Who is out there missing their pet right now?? Who brought Goose to Earth???

And yes yes, awesome tentacle mouth kitty, very Puffy, I’m just confused from a story point. Did I miss something? I mean, I only watched the movie once ‘cuz it was free entertainment on a very long flight. Is it some backstory something from the comics that’ll explain this, ‘cuz I don’t have any source materials for most of the Marvel universe anyway. I’m just confused about this odd choice of plot device.

Goose was Mar’vell’s pet from back in the day. Apparently just been hanging out around the military base this whole time, and recognized Carol when she showed up so started following her.
